Read More	The Morning Sun News-Herald, January 3, 1929; Morning Sun, Iowa: Pioneer Woman of Community Dies Mrs. Maria Hamilton Laid to Rest Wednesday. Mrs. Maria Hamilton, a resident of this community for upwards of sixty years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Norman Wheeler, west of town, December 31st (1928), following a general decline in health. For many years she was a resident of this city, making her home with her daughter of late weeks. The funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Reverend H. W. Munster of Letts, assisted by Reverend W. G. Barr, the local pastor. The interment was at the Rice cemetery northwest of town. The following relatives were in attendance at the funeral services: Harry Hamilton and family of Mt. Union Mrs. Leonard Hunter of Holt, Missouri, [and] Mrs. W. R. Klepper of Kearney, Missouri. Maria Whitaker Hamilton, daughter of Lucy Pettibone and Benjamin Whitaker, was born December 25, 1845, at Plymouth, Illinois. She was one of a family of nine children, of whom only two are living, G. P. Whitaker of Blandensville, Illinois, and Claude Whitaker of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. Mrs. Hamilton was married to Robert M. Hamilton, March 22, 1866. To this union were born ten children: George, William, Dora, Harry, Lucy, Lydia, Myrtle, Mary, Robert, and Lois. Her husband, who was a Civil War veteran, and six children preceded her in death. She is survived by one daughter, three sons, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Mrs. Norman Wheeler, George, Harry and Robert Hamilton, Mrs. Rachel Speer, Harold and Bernard Wheeler, William, Lester and Dorothy Hamilton, Mrs. Marie Cornic, Wilma, Bobby and Beryl Speer and Elda Marie Wheeler. In early life she united with the Presbyterian church, later transferring her membership to the Methodist church of which church she was a member at her death. She was also a member of the local Woman's Relief Corps. Mrs. Hamilton was noted for her wealth of happiness and humor.
