Read More	The Morning Sun News-Herald, March 19, 1914; Morning Sun, Iowa: Robert Martin Hamilton was born October 10, 1841, in Preble county, Ohio, and died in Morning Sun, at his home, March 11, 1914, at 1 o'clock, being aged 73 years, 5 months and 1 day. He was the second child of ten children born to Andrew M. and Margaret A. Hamilton. At the age of 20 he enlisted in Company D, 78th Regiment Illinois Volunteers, going to the front in 1861, and served his country till the close of the war. He was married to Maria Elizabeth Whitaker March 22, 1866, in Hancock [County], Illinois. To this union were born ten children two of whom died in infancy, Dora and William. Four more died in womanhood, Margaret Lucy Helphry, Eliza, Mary Ellen, Lois Dean. Four still remain to mourn the loss of their father, Mrs. N. T. Wheeler, Harry, Robert Leander, and George Irvin. Mr. Hamilton is also survived by six grand children and the widow. Six sisters and one brother also mourn his death: Mrs. Eliza Marshall and Mrs. Mary Whitaker, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Margaret Hunt and Mrs. Blue, Aurora, Illinois; Mrs. Hornsby of this city; Mrs. Laura Wells, Lincoln, Nebraska; T. A. Hamilton of Winfield. At the age of 32, Mr. Hamilton was converted and united with the Baptist church, of which church he was a member for twelve years. He then changed his membership to the Methodist Episcopal church in Morning Sun, of which church he was a faithful member to the day of his death. Mr. Hamilton had been in fair health till about a week ago when it became necessary for him to submit himself to a physician's care. He passed quietly away with no one present but his wife and sister, Mrs. Susannah Hornsby.. Mr. Hamilton will be greatly missed in the community in which he has lived so long. His relatives and friends will feel his loss most keenly for they knew him best. He was a kind father and a loving husband, and trusted the Heavenly Father to the last. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Saturday afternoon, conducted by Reverend C. B. Hankins, assisted by Reverends Park and Cameron. Interment at the Rice cemetery. The Grand Army veterans were down from Wapello and attended the funeral in a body. The out-of-town relatives present at the funeral were: Mrs. Eliza J. Marshall, Mrs. Mary Whitaker, Mrs. Nora Kauffman, and Mrs. Elizabeth Hamilton from Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Margaret Hunt from Aurora, Illinois; Mrs. Nellie Gereke and Miss Marian Hamilton from Burlington; T. A. Hamilton and Leonard Hamilton from Winfield; Joe Woods and Melvin Hamilton from Lenox, Iowa. The children were all present at the funeral except one son, George, who lives in Minnesota and was unable to get here.
