Harms of Monticello died Oct. 4 at her home in Monticello, following a sudden illness. Mary G. Luerkens and Carl Henry Harms were married Jan. 27, 1925 at Kenyon, MN. The couple made their home in Wayne Township, Jones county, where they farmed. In 1953 the couple moved to Monticello. She then started to work as a cook for the Monticello Community Schools and worked for the school system until retirement in 1975. Carl preceded Mary in death on Sept. 7, 1971. Mary was a member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello. She is survived by a daughter, Evalena Poppe of Monticello, and three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred Luerkens, Claremont, MN; two sisters, Christina Johnson of Albert Lea, MN and Dena Wilken of Monticello. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, four brothers and one sister. Honorary bearers were Lawrence Heeren, Elwill Reuter, Carl Schoon and James Maurice. Casket bearers were Dana Edwards, Ralph Bader, Raymond Adams, Richard Landis, Jerry Haag and Harry Dierks. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of the arrangements.
