Description	:	Mrs. Anna Maria Ficken, wife of Henry Ficken of Garland, passed away at her home last Sunday afternoon, November 25, after a lingering illness. A native of Germany, she had been a resident of Seward county for 45 years where she was well known. Three years ago she and her husband retired from the farm and moved into Garland. After a short devotion at the house, funeral services were held at the St. Paul's Lutheran church eight miles south of Garland, where both she and her husband have held membership since coming to this country. The services were in charge... Read More	Mrs. Anna Maria Ficken, wife of Henry Ficken of Garland, passed away at her home last Sunday afternoon, November 25, after a lingering illness. A native of Germany, she had been a resident of Seward county for 45 years where she was well known. Three years ago she and her husband retired from the farm and moved into Garland. After a short devotion at the house, funeral services were held at the St. Paul's Lutheran church eight miles south of Garland, where both she and her husband have held membership since coming to this country. The services were in charge of Rev. E. Duerschner, the pastor of the church. Interment was in the St. Paul's cemetery. Mrs. Ficken was born January 30, 1864 at Ahlerstedt, in the province of Hanover in Germany. She was the daughter of Peter Loehden and wife. She spent her youth in the place of her birth and on December 1, 1882 she was united in marriage with John Henry Ficken. Several years later they left their native land and emigrated to America, coming directly to Seward county where they have resided ever since. Two years ago they were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary. She had enjoyed good health and a very active life until about a year ago when she became ill. When the heat of the summer set in she was forced to retire to her bed, being seriously ill practically ever since. Mrs. Ficken was a faithful wife and mother. An infant died in Germany but two sons and four daughters survive their mother and all live in this vicinity. They are Henry and Herman Ficken, Mrs. Anna Hodde, Mrs. Emma Prochnow, Mrs. Mary Gruber visiting at present in California, and Mrs. Elsie Schulz. A brother, Martin Loehden, is still residing in Germany and two sisters survive, Mrs. Anna Eggerling of Ruby, and Mrs. Margaret Miller of Los Angeles, California. There are also 16 grandchildren.
