Webber; Aged 71; Died Thursday September 24 Melcena Maria Stevens was born on December 18, 1853 in Scotland County, Missouri. She was the eldest daughter of Augustus and Caroline Stevens. She grew to womanhood in this city and on March 31, 1870, she was married to A. P. Harbor, by Rev. Enoch Browning. No children came to be in this union. In 1875 they took into their hearts and home a little boy, adopting him as their own under the name of William Smith Harbor. He preceded her in death on April 9, 1924. In the fall of 1880 they moved from their farm near Bible Grove to a farm in the Salem neighborhood. In February of 1907 they again took another boy, Glen Spencer, and her motherly heart cherished him until he left her to make a home of his own. Her husband died on February 13, 1908. She remained on the farm near two years, but finding it too much for her strength sold it and came to Memphis. Here she was married to C. A. Webber on May 20, 1912. Mr. Webber died January 20, 1919. She gave her heart to God in early life and united with the Christian Church at Salem, later transferring her membership to the Memphis church. She has lived a truly christian life and given both of her service and aid in this interest. In March of the present year she had a serious illness and although she called herself well, her strength was not as before, and quietly without a murmur of complaint, passed away at 3:30 p.m., September 24, 1925, at her home, aged 71 years, 9 months, and 6 days. In her home life she was indeed a true neighbor, a loyal friend, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand or extend her sympathy to the troubled. She leaves one brother, W. G. Stevens of Dunbar, Wisconsin; four sisters, Mrs. P. H. Ryan and Mrs. T. P. LaMay of Huntington Park, California; Ella M. Stevens of Los Angeles; Mrs. G. T. Gardner of this city, and one granddaughter of San Francisco, California, besides a number of relatives and friends. A short service was held at her late home in Memphis at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 27, after which she was taken to the Union Church where the services were conducted by Rev. E. P. Taggart of the Christian Church, and she was buried in the cemetery at that place. A large number of friends and neighbors were present to pay their tribute of respect.
