Description	:	Marian Easter, 97, died peacefully at home on December 4, 2014.Marian Wilma Streyffeler was born March 12, 1917, in Red Oak, Iowa, to Opal and Harlan Vernon Streyffeler. She was the oldest of five children. The family moved all over Iowa throughout her childhood before settling in Des Moines. She attended Drake University, graduating in 1939. Read More	Marian Easter, 97, died peacefully at home on December 4, 2014.Marian Wilma Streyffeler was born March 12, 1917, in Red Oak, Iowa, to Opal and Harlan Vernon Streyffeler. She was the oldest of five children. The family moved all over Iowa throughout her childhood before settling in Des Moines. She attended Drake University, graduating in 1939. She taught second grade two years in Pella before her marriage.At Drake, Marian met the love of her life, Don Easter. They were married June 1, 1941, the start of a 70-year marriage. She stayed home and reared their five children, teaching them the love of education and reading, appreciation for the beauty of nature, and the value of music, independence, good citizenship and hospitality. She taught Sunday school and helped with the youth group at First Christian Church. She also served on the boards of the Des Moines Playhouse and Broadlawns Hospital and helped children at Hanawalt Elementary School with their reading.Marian was a lifelong reader who was a faithful member of an AAUW book group for over 40 years. She read two newspapers every day and was a great fan of Jane Austin. She loved flowers and birds in all their variety and the joy of the changing seasons. She was known for her kindness and hospitality to everyone. She enjoyed looking after her grandchildren and visits from her great-grandchildren.Don and Marian traveled all over the world. They especially enjoyed ballroom dancing at Castle Club, attending performances of classical music and opera, and summer weekends at the family cottage on Clear Lake. They were devoted supporters of Drake University, Des Moines Metro Opera, Des Moines Symphony, the National Benevolent Association and many other community organizations.Marian was preceded in death by her son, Dennis and her husband, Don. She is survived by her children, David (Maud) of Albany, NY, Paul (Sandy) of Des Moines, Martha Easter-Wells (Kriss) of LeClaire, and Jane Easter Bahls (Steve) of Rock Island, IL, daughter-in-law, Jan Stump (Layton) of West Des Moines, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, going on ten. She was much loved and will be deeply missed.
