Marie Anna Meyer Mahlstedt was born November 5, 1923 in rural Sumner to John and Louisa (Warnke) Meyer. She attended country schools through the eighth grade and then worked for other farm families. In their early years... Read More	Marie A. Mahlstedt, age 89, of New Hampton, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 surrounded by her daughters at Linn Havin Care Center in New Hampton. Marie Anna Meyer Mahlstedt was born November 5, 1923 in rural Sumner to John and Louisa (Warnke) Meyer. She attended country schools through the eighth grade and then worked for other farm families. Memories of working at Winks in Sumner and the friends she met there were with her throughout her entire life. On March 15, 1945, Marie was united in marriage to Willis Mahlstedt in rural Sumner. In their early years they worked together farming and raising their six children. In 1971, Marie and Willis moved from their farm into New Hampton where she started her career as a paid cook. She worked for New Hampton Care Center and the Sara Lee cafeteria until retiring. Marie also helped care for a special neighbor for years after retirement. One of the most memorable moments was celebrating her 80th birthday with her 102 year old mother in attendance. Most especially she enjoyed cooking each of her family member's favorites, quilting, and gardening. Marie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1959. Marie's survivors include her children, Darold (JoAnn) Mahlstedt of Clear Lake, IA, Diane (Duane) Nelson of Smithville, MO, Dorann (Tom) Burgart of New Hampton, Bonnie (Tim Reed) Swenson of Winona, MN and Ronnie Mahlstedt of New Hampton and Deb (Steve) Dockendorf of New Hampton; her sister, Betty (Ray) Roder of Sumner; her sisters-in-law, Marlyn Meyer of Readlyn, IA Loretta Mahlstedt of Tripoli, IA and brother-in-law, Wesley Mahlstedt of Waterloo, IA; her 13 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis in 1982; her brother, Raymond Meyer; brothers-in-law, William, Wendell and Wilbur Mahlstedt and sisters-in-law, Nora and Norma Niemeyer.
