Moving to Columbus [Nebraska], Marie cared for her aging mother and worked as domestic help. Unsed clothing was given to her by her employers and neighbors, which she repaired and distributed to her young nieces and nephews. The scraps and very worn garments were woven into carpet rugs [sic.] and slippers.
