Her paternal grandparents were Antonin and Dorota (Klasterkova) Brant who lived in Bolesiny, Czechoslovakia. Her maternal grandparents were Jan and Katerina (Mesickova) Sedlacek. She arrived in the Port of Galveston, Texas with her four children: Blahoboy, Emilie, Antone, and Jim; accompanied by her parents, and her brothers Anton, Vaclav, Hynek, and Edmund and her sister Bozena. She had come to rejoin her husband, Vaclav, who had immigrated the previous year. Marie lived a quiet life and her greatest pleasure was her family, home and her friends. She enjoyed attending the Baptist Church Sunday Services. Marie belonged to ZCBJ Lodge, No. 166 of Lucas and was a faithful member until her death. In Czech, ZCBJ is short for Zapadni Cesko Bratrske Jednota. This translates to Western Bohemian Fraternal Association in English. Later references to ZCBJ in the Lucas area indicated it to mean Zapandi Czechoslovakia Brakaska Jednota. The ZCBJ is now known as the Western Czechoslovakian Fraternal Association.
