Description	:	Marie Christina Chapel, 86, of Big Timber passed away Saturday, December 23, 2000 at Livingston Health and Rehab Center, with her family at her side. Marie was born January 21, 1914 in Anaconda to Robert and Christina (Garrett) Gale. She attended schools in Anaconda, graduating from Anaconda High School in 1931 and Western Montana College in Dillon with a lifetime teacher's certificate. Marie was born January 21, 1914 in Anaconda to Robert and Christina (Garrett) Gale. She attended schools in Anaconda, graduating from Anaconda High School in 1931 and Western Montana College in Dillon with a lifetime teacher's certificate. After graduation she taught country school at Big Hole in Fish Trap. Marie married Eugene L. Chapel on June 3, 1939 in Anaconda. They ranched in Sweet Grass County until Gene's death in 1957. They raised four sons. Marie returned to teaching in country schools in Sweet Grass County until she retired. She then managed the Stock Street Apartments in Big Timber for 12 years for HDA Management in Billings. Marie was a member of St. Mark's Episcoal Alter Guild, American Legion Auxiliary, 8 and 40, Montana Retired Teachers, and Hospitality House. She enjoyed her family and friends, her teaching profession, her church, senior citizens and playing cards. She is survived by three sons, Jim (Fred) Chapel of Ballantine, George (Rosemary) of Livingston and Garry of Rosebud; one sister, Mona (Clarence) Peterson of Anaconda; nine grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene, four brothers and a twin sister. Funeral services will be at 11am Friday, December 29 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Mary Rowe officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery. Lowry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Published Big Timber Pioneer Dec 29, 2000
