She was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Dorset, Ohio, the daughter of Grant W. and Ruth H. (Flack) McConnell and has been an area resident all of her life. She was a 1936 graduate of Dorset High School. Congdon August 6, 2015 JEFFERSON — Marie Elizabeth “Betty” Congdon, age 97, of Jefferson, Ohio, died Monday evening at the Jefferson Healthcare Center. She was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Dorset, Ohio, the daughter of Grant W. and Ruth H. (Flack) McConnell and has been an area resident all of her life. She was a 1936 graduate of Dorset High School. Mrs. Congdon worked several years as a secretary at the Ashtabula County Courthouse prior to her retirement. Betty was an active member of the Lenox Federated Church, now the Lenox Christian Fellowship Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, Women’s Association member and held various offices, including treasurer for several years. She was a member of the Lenox Board of Education where she served as clerk and treasurer, a member of the Lenox Historical Society, was an avid reader and was continuously involved in studying the Bible, through church and correspondence courses from Moody Bible Institute. She also sang in the Billy Graham Choir. Survivors include three children, Ronald E. (Susan) Congdon of Chesterland, Ruth Ann (Jack) Theil of Hubbard and Cheryl F. Havens of Munroe Falls; six grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband, Donald E. Congdon in 1992; a daughter in infancy, Donna Jean Congdon in 1939; a granddaughter, Susan L. Eybers in 2012; a son-in-law, Rollin L. Havens in 2008; brothers, William, Russell and Robert McConnell; and a sister, Lucille Springer. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, August 7th, at the Lenox Christian Fellowship Church, 2610 Lenox-New Lyme Road, Lenox Township, Jefferson, Ohio 44047, with Pastor Rick Havens officiating. Burial will be in Dorset Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lenox Christian Fellowship Church at the above address and envelopes will be at the Church.
