Kamminga, of Boyden, was instantly killed at 2.30 o'clock last Friday afternoon, July 3rd, when the car she was driving was struck by a large Studebaker sedan. A part of the Ford sedan which she was driving struck her in the head, as it was forced over from the blow crushing the top of her skull. The accidemt happened directly in front of the Kamminga home, just at the southeast edge of Boyden. Miss Kamminga was driving out of the farm driveway of their home onto Primary road No. 19, when a large Studebaker sedan driven by S. F. Susach, of Sioux City came from the west and ran into her light sedan, causing it to overturn and roll into the ditch. The Sioux City car in which there were two women and five children besides Mr. Susach, also overturned into the ditch but none of the occupants were injured with the exception of small cuts and bruises. Mr. Susach, his wife and three children and Mrs. F. D. Marvanville, all of Sioux City; and Mrs. O. Godshall and two children of Des Moines were on their way to the lakes when the accident happened. Mr. Susach claimed that he warned Miss Kaniminga with the horn as she aproached the road, but that she evidently did not hear the signal. He also claimed that he was traveling about 25 miles per hour, but others claim he was going much faster. No inquest was held by the authorities. Immediately after the accident happened, Dr. Will Kuyper was called, but it was impossible for him to do anything, as her head was crushed so badly that she died instantly. The funeral services were held Monday at the First Reformed church. Marie Gertrude Kamminga was born on the 9th day of February, in the year of 1907, in the vicinity of Boyden and at the time of her sudden dearth, Friday, July 3rd, at 2:30 p. m., she was 18 years, 4 months and 24 days of age. She was the youngest daugther of Mr. and Mrs. R. Kamiminga, well known and highly respected citizens of Boyden. Marie received her grade school education in the Christian School of Instruction at Boyden, later attending the Boyden High School for two years. She was graduated this spring from the Northwestern Classical Academy at Orange City; and at the time of her death was enrolled at the I. S. T. C. Summer School at Sheldon. She was a young lady of most pleasant disposition and of sterling Christian character. She was an active worker in the societies and church affairs of the First Reformed church. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances she was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her sad and untimely death cast a shadow over the whole community, and every heart was touched with sympathy for the bereaved ones. Besides her mother and father, she leaves one brother Henry, and two sisters, Coba and Johanna to mourn her death. Also a large number of other relatives. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home, and at the First Reformed Church. Interment was made in the Boyden Cemetery. The audience at the funeral was the largest ever gathered together at a service in Boyden.
