Services were held on Monday, October 12, 2009, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Becker officiating. *** Marie was born on November 3, 1912, near Hildreth, Nebraska, to Tom and Anna (Stratman) Groothuis. She became a child of God and an heir to everlasting life in Christ through Holy Baptism at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church south of Hildreth by Pastor T. Senkeisen. On June 27, 1926, she publicly confessed her faith in the one true God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit through the rite of confirmation at the Redeemer Luther Church, Ash Grove, Franklin County, Nebraska. She became a Sunday School superintendent and taught Sunday School in the same church for many years. She attended school at the Ash Grove School District #22 in Franklin County and graduated from the 8th grade on June 3, 1926. On April 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Henry H. Frerichs at the Redeemer Lutheran church parsonage at Ash Grove by Pastor Karl Kuebler. They lived on farms at Dalton, Franklin, Hildreth and Funk. They moved to Minden in 1955, where she was employed at the Pioneer Village weaving rugs in the loomshop, retiring in 1977. She entered Bethany Home in Minden in November of 2001. Marie was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden, St. Paul Ladies Aid and the L.W.M.L. Survivors include nephews and nieces; cousins; brother-in-law, Ed Frerichs and his wife Bonnie of Hildreth; three sisters-in-law, Harriet Frerichs of Minden, Adeline Frerichs of Gurley, and Phyllis Frerichs of Auburn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry who died in 1990; a twin sister and seven brothers.
