At her bedside were the husband and all of her living children, except Henry Hjort of Powers Lake. The deceased had been in ill health for some time, the illness dating from last winter, when she was compelled to take her bed. Since that time she has been a patient sufferer, bearing up bravely under the great burden of pain and helplessness with the true Christian resignation. Grandma Hjort was always of cheerful disposition and was a general favorite in the community with old and young alike. The hospitality of her home was marked and it seemed that her home was the center of a large community, where friends and a large circle of her relatives loved to gather. Her demise is noticed with genuine regret, although her death was not wholly unexpected. A complication of diseases accompanied with old age is believed to be the immediate cause of her death. Mrs. P. J. Hjort, whose maiden name was Mary Anderson, was born in Kristianstad, Sweden, January 12, 1837, united in marriage to P. J. Hjort, October 12, 1863, emigrating to the United States in 1868, settling at Afton, Minnesota and later relocating to Minneapolis. After three years residence in that place, the family moved to Cokato, where they resided for eleven years, and then to Lake Elizabeth where they lived nineteen years, later moving to Atwater residing there three years, and coming to Kenmare in 1901, where a continuous residence has been made until the time of her death. The wedded union between Mr. and Mrs. Hjort was blessed with eight children, three of whom have gone before. Those remaining to mourn the loss are the husband, Mr. P.J. Hjort and the five children, Nels Hjort, Mrs. Charles Ostrand, Eddie Hjort, Mrs. Gus Swedlund, all of whom are located in the immediate vicinity of the home of the deceased, and Henry Hjort, who is the manager of the Farmers Elevator at Powers Lake. The deceased was an honored member of the Baptist Church, under whose auspices the funeral was held last Tuesday, Rev. C.C. Heidenberg, officiating, assisted by Rev. L. Eklund. A short service was held at the home at 10 o’clock and services proper were held at the Baptist Church at Niobe, where the deceased was accustomed to worship.
