Read More	Obit from Waterloo Evening Courier - August 26, 1915 Pg 9 Mrs. Marie Carstensen nee Hansen was born on May 12, 1841, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. At the age of 13, she accompanied her mother and sister to America, their goal being Beecher, Ill. Later she worked in Chicago until she was married to Carl Winter. The young couple made their home in Cedar Lake, Ind. Mr. Winter fought in the Civil war and was killed on the 25th of June, 1864. This left the young widow with her two children, who still live to mourn their mother. The children are Mrs. Emma Selbig of Tripoli and John Winter, now residing at Sumner. Later on Mrs. Winter was married to Andrew Carstensen, then living in Cook county, Ill. Forty-seven years ago they came to Bremer county, Iowa, buying a farm near Tripoli. Thru this second marriage Mrs. Carstensen became the mother of the children of Mr. Carstensen's first marriage. These are Mrs. Helena Freitag, near Tripoli; George, Peter, and John Carstensen of Tripoli and Andrew Carstensen of Minnesota. This second marriage was blessed with eight children, of which Mrs. Carl Piegors of near Tripoli, is the only one living. Mr. Carstensen died March 11, 1901. Since then Mrs. Carstensen lived here (Tripoli). On July 11, 1914, Mrs. Carstensen who was already feeble, had the misfortune of falling in her home and breaking her hip. Since then she had not been able to leave her bed. She died Aug 17, at 6:45 a.m., at the age of 74 years, three months and five days. Besides the above mentioned children she leaves twenty-one grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral was held Aug. 19th at 1:30 p.m., at St. Peter's Evangelical church.
