Obit from The Sumner Gazette - March 14, 1901 Page 1 Andrew Carstensen, for 32 years a resident of the vicinity of Tripoli, died at his home in that town early last Saturday morning of cancer of the stomach, after an all-winter of intense suffering. He was born in Germany over 78 years ago, was the father of nine children, all of whom, with his wife, survive him. For many years he was one of the three supervisors of Bremer county. He was a man of influence, honesty, sterling character, and neighborly qualifications. The funeral was held Tuesday at the Lutheran church in Tripoli, of which he had been a life long and faithful member. Burial was made in the cemetery on his own farm, three miles southeast of town. Andrew Carstensen will be much missed and long remembered by the old settlers of Bremer County.
