Read More	Marie Maxine Buttler, 89, was born on August 23, 1925 to Fay and Neva (Sheeder) Messinger at their home in Baker Township, southwest of Guthrie Center, IA. She passed away on April 21, 2015 at Guthrie County Hospital.Marie grew up on a farm and attended a one-room school house: Union #8. Her biggest regret was not being allowed to attend high school because she would have liked to be a teacher. Instead, she did housework for her grandmother and other families, waitressed in local cafes, and worked in Des Moines as a welder making cans that went overseas to the military. She met the love of her life, Wayne Buttler, while he was on leave from the Navy; and they were married on January 12, 1946, less than one month after his discharge. To this union were born two daughters, Patricia and Pamela.Marie was a devoted wife and mother who always put her family first. She wasn't employed while she raised her two daughters. She taught Sunday school and later became a Girl Scout leader. She sewed clothes for the girls, cooked, baked, canned, and supported her daughters' activities. After her daughters left home, she worked for Garst sorting corn and then enjoyed 30 years selling Avon products, receiving the President's Award every year.Marie loved to read, work on genealogy, travel, and garden. She and Wayne traveled to every continental state, and took trips with both daughters and their families. Genealogy was her passion and resulted in several trips to Pennsylvania where the Sheeders originally settled. She created albums for the family on the genealogy of the Sheeders, Messingers, and Buttlers.Marie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the UMW, and Seeley Creek Club. She and Wayne enjoyed playing cards with a group of 10 couples for nearly 50 years.Marie is survived by her husband, Wayne, and her daughters Patricia and Pamela, grandchildren Matthew (Sara) Merritt and Michael (Claudia) Merritt who gave her two great-grandchildren James and Julissa, her brother Buck (Marge) Messinger, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Lou, and her brother Jerry.
