Linwood, Dec. 5 - Mrs. Marie Hoffman, aged 86 years and 3 months, in failing health for some years and seriously ill the past week, passed away at her home in Linwood Friday evening, Dec. 1, her death due to the infirmities of old age. She was born in Czechoslovakia August 10, 1847, and was married there in 1867 to John Sabatka. To them were born three children. One daughter, Mrs. Anna Havlik, passed away a few years ago. The surviving daughter and son are Mrs. M. J. Rezac of Linwood and Frank Sabatka of Onawa, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Satbatka and their children came to America, settling near Morse Bluff, in Saunders county. Mr. Sabatka died there in 1889. In 1891 Mrs. Sabatka was married to John Hoffman. They resided on a farm four miles east of Linwood until retiring from farm life in 1903 and moving to Linwood. Mr. Hoffman passes away March 10, 1922. Besides her son and daughter, Mrs. Hoffman leaves six step-children. They are Mrs. Anna Walla of Linwood, Mrs. Mary Soukup of Spencer, Mrs. Rogers of Bridgeport, James W. Hoffman of Sumner, and Frank and John L. Hoffman of Linwood. Funeral services were held at the Z.C.B.J. hall Monday morning, with Rev. Filipi, of Clarkson, officiating. Mrs. F. F. Mundil, Mrs. F. F. Thomas, Mrs. Frank Wesely and Will and Alfred Tichacek were the singers. The pallbearers were Mrs. Hoffman's grandsons, Emil Rezac, Edward Rezac, Leonard Rezac, George Walla, John Walla, Jr., and Albin Hoffman. Burial was in the Linwood Hill cemetery. Relatives present at the funeral from away were Mrs. Mary Soukup from Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Hoffman and daughters from Sumner, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sabatka and son from Onawa, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rezac from Omaha.
