'''''''''''''''' The Brainard Clipper, March 29, 1934, p. 1, col. 2 AGED BRAINARD LADY PASSES AWAY AFTER ILLNESS Mrs. Marie Hromas, resident of Brainard for some thirty-two years, departed this life on Sunday morning, March 25, following illness of several months with a chronic heart trouble. Her final illness was of about six weeks during which time she was bedfast. She was eighty-two years, seven months and seven days of age at time of her death. Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning at ten o'clock at Holy Trinity Catholic church, with Rt. Rev. Msgr. A. J. Klein officiating. Six grandsons, James, Frank and Jacob Hamsa, Joseph M. Sypal, Edward and Raymond Soukup, were the pallbearers. Burial was in the Brainard Catholic Cemetery beside the grave of her husband who had preceded her about nine years ago. Relatives, other than those from this community, in attendance at the funeral were: Mrs. Stazie Bauer, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vojtech, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vopalensky, Mrs. William Vopalensky, all of Morse Bluffs; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dvorak of North Bend and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dudek of Valparaiso. Marie Prochaska was born August 17, 1851, at Kocove, Czecholslovakia. As a young girl she came with her parents to America, the family settling in the Plasi community in Saunders county. There she was married in 1871 to Vaclav Hromas. In that vicinity they continued residence until retiring from farm life and moving to Brainard in 1902. Of six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Hromas, only two survive, they are Mrs Mary Petrzilka and Mrs. Frank J. Soukup both of Brainard. Two sons died in infancy, and two daughters, Mrs. J. A. Sypal and Mrs. Frank Hamsa, preceded their parents in death. Mrs. Hromas is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Stazie Bauer of Morse Bluffs, and by fifteen grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren. During the last months of her life Mrs. Hromas was cared for by her grandson, James Hamsa, and Mrs. Hamsa who made their home with her. Mrs. Hromas was a kind, patient and devout woman, a lifelong Catholic and a member of the Rosary Society of Holy Trinity church. She and Mr. Hromas were among the organizers of the Plasi parish when that church was built. __ CARD OF THANKS We extend our sincere thanks to all friends, relatives and neighbors, for their many acts of kindness during the illness and at time of death of our dear mother, sister and grandmother; also thanks for the spiritual and floral offerings.
