Marshall was born in France. She states she came from the Alsace area of France. It was probably around the Ban de la Roche area since many of the residents of Woolstock come from that area. Mary and her husband Henry G. Claude came to the US before 1850. In the census for 1850, her husband lists himself as Gustav Claude. They are living in Adams, LaSalle, Illinois. There was another Henry in the area and it is assumed that he wanted to be known by his middle name. In 1950, Julian, Lewis, and Henry E. Claude are living with the family. They family continues to live in Adams in 1860. Henry passes away on Jun 25, 1878 and is buried in Saint Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Somonauk, LaSalle, Illinois. In other research, it was found that many family members are buried in this cemetery. There are several records of family members being married at that church. Jane Claude who is a Granddaughter married Frank L. Beshey at that church. In 1880, Mary T. Claude is living with her son Henry E. Claude in Adams, Illinois. The family moves to Woolstock, Iowa sometime after 1880. Mary T. Claude dies November 12, 1884 and was buried at the French Church. Her son Henry E. Claude is living in Troy, Wright, Iowa in the 1885 Iowa Census. Her known children.. Henry E. Claude.. (1847-1937) Lewis Claude..(July,1844- Oct. 7, 1862) buried Saint Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Somonauk, Illinois. Recorded on the stone is that Lewis was the son of H.G. and M.T.M. Claude. Mary's maiden name was found on the Iowa Marriages 1838-1934 for her son Henry E. Claude marrying his second wife Josephine Kepler. This is not certain but Mary T. Marshall Claude is probably the mother of Julian Cluade of Woolstock.
