Home is in Plymouth Township, Ashtabula County, Ohio: Orlando G Dart: 32, b New York; Machinist Marilda Dart: 31, b New York Edgar Dart: 5, b West Canada Marilda died the same year her son, Edgar, died: 1852, so I wonder if there might have been an epidemic which I've found were fairly common in the Midwest in the early and mid-1800's. I also wonder if she had any other children with Orlando as Edgar was born in 1845 and in this era it has seemed most common to see married women having a child every 2 - 3 years. While only 1 child, Edgar, was recorded in the 1850 Census, it seems likely Marilda would have had another child between 1847 and the 1850 Census (6 Sep), in which case that baby must have died. It also seems possible she could have had a child between 6 Sep (1850 Census) and the time of her death in 1852. Clearly this is conjecture on my part, but based on about 10 years of fairly extensive research of working class families (mostly farmers) in the Midwest. Marilda's husband, Orlando, remarried 15 Mar 1854 in Ashtabula County to Lucinda R Dick, and had at least 3 children with her (1860 & 1870 Census records). The fact there are no Dart children in the 1860 Dart household older than 6 also suggests there were no surviving children from his marriage to Marilda. Orlando died in Wisconsin in 1875 where they moved to around 1857 based on the birth locations of their children. Marilda's year of death and burial plot is recorded in Chestnut Grove's record book, page 128. Importantly, this record documented her married name which I had not yet located: DART. Marilda's husband, in fact, is recorded as buying the burial plot on 4 March 1854 for the amount of $25. That gels with the records of the 10 people recorded as buried in Lot 193 of Section 2 as Marilda is the first/oldest burial in this Lot. However, it appears that Miralda and her young son must have been buried elsewhere and re-interred in this Lot as both died more than a year before the Lot was purchased. Nevertheless, I am grateful to the researcher who reviewed the Cemetery book after responding to a Photo Request I made for a sister of Marilda's.
