Marilyn was born February 16, 1924, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Doris (Klinefelter) Ward. She graduated from Shell Rock High School in 1942. Read More	Marilyn Marie Heine, 89, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. Marilyn was born February 16, 1924, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Doris (Klinefelter) Ward. She graduated from Shell Rock High School in 1942. On November 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Carl R. Heine in Princeton, Missouri. Four days later Carl entered the U.S. Army during the WWII campaign until August of 1945. When they returned to Iowa, Marilyn and Carl made their home in Clarksville. In 1947, they moved to Shell Rock where Marilyn was very busy raising their children, Robert (Bob) born in February 1945, Michael (Steve) born in July 1948 and Barbara born in January 1950. Marilyn was well known in the community for her seamstress abilities, making the majority of her children's clothing. Her seamstress talents became well known and she began an in-home seamstress business designing and sewing clothing for others in the community. Sewing wasn't her only interest, she loved to make many other things including clothespin dolls (over 7, 000) and their outfits, miniature doll furniture using a small table saw and router, ceramic items, knitted and crocheted sweaters and afghans, chip carving boxes and pins, hooked rugs and much more. In the past 15 years her passions turned toward the making of hand stitched quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She has an unfinished quilt in her home right now. Marilyn worked outside the home as a phone operator for the Shell Rock Phone Co., clerked at the Shell Rock IPS office and at Security State Bank of Shell Rock. In 1979, she and Carl retired and spent six months out of every year for 19 years in retirement communities in Texas. Marilyn learned to use a computer and was an avid e-mail participant, keeping in touch with many old friends. She was very active in the Shell Rock community and enjoyed her daily walks up town every morning for coffee with friends. She was a member of the Shell Rock United Methodist Church, the Shell Rock Amvets Auxiliary, and was a longtime member of the Friendship Quilters Guild of Waverly and looked forward to meeting with other members for the many outings to quilt shops and shows. Marilyn is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Sue Heine of Shell Rock and Steve and Ann Heine of Independence; four grandchildren, Kurt (Jolene) Heine of Dubuque, Jennifer (Clint Goodman) of Cedar Rapids, Elizabeth (Keith Hynek) of Iowa City and Nicholas (Lindsey) Heine of Cedar Falls; nine great grandchildren, Randell and Kayli Heine; Cora, Jackson, Cadey and Jordan Goodman; and Lauryn, Caleb and Maya Hynek; one great-great-granddaughter Alanis Heine; five step grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Heine; parents, Harry and Doris Ward; daughter, Barbara Ann Heine; brothers, Lloyd and Donald (Pretz) Ward; sister, Beverly Mullen and one granddaughter, Suzanne Heine. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014, at the Heritage United Methodist Church in Waverly with Pastor John Brockschink officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to share their special memories of Marilyn during the service. Per her request, she has been cremated. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock. Memorials may be directed to the family or Cedar Valley Hospice and on-line condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
