Two memorial services by veterans auxiliaries will be held Tuesday. Lima Navy Club Auxiliary members will hold services at 8 p.m. Mrs. Miller was national commandant of the Navy Club Auxiliary, installed last June in Fort Wayne, Ind. Mrs. Howell had been active in the organization for several years. Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary will hold services at 8:30 p.m. for Mrs. Miller, a past president of that organization and a member of the VFW Cootiettes. A total of nine persons were injured in the fatal crash, including three other members of the family and another Lima girl. The bodies were returned to Lima last night and members of the immediate family are expected to return here from Erie later today. Expected to be transferred from Hamot Hospital, Erie, are the husband, Dewey, 58, former Allen County sheriff's deputy, with scalp lacerations and head injuries; his daughter, Gretchen, 16, lacerations of the right side of the face and partial loss of right ear, and Mrs. Howell's daughter, Patricia, 7, with shoulder injuries. A friend of the family also injured, Judy Lugibill, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Lugibill, 614 W. High St., suffered a broken jaw and a lacerated chin. She was returned here last night to Memorial Hospital by her parents. She was reported in good condition. The Lima residents were on their way to a vacation in Canada when the wreck occurred on U.S. Route 20 on the outskirts of North East, Pa., four miles from the New York state line. Members of the other car were from Park Ridge, Ill. They were all reported in good condition, according to reports from local persons returning. The injured were Merl F. Day, 41, who had a fractured left knee; his wife, Lorian, 40, a fractured left arm and lacerated eye. They were still in Hamot Hospital. Their two daughters, Sharon, 11, and Donna, 7, were released Saturday after treatment of bruises. Mrs. Miller was an employee in the Gregg's Department Store glove department. Survivors of Mrs. Miller are the husband; two sons, George D., 317 S. Jackson St. and Pershing, S. Pine St.; two daughters, Mrs. James Slechter, 2201 Western Ave.; and Gretchen, at home; her mother, Mrs. Wesley Dorris, at home, and three sisters, Mrs. Mavis Bever, 706 1/2 W. High St., Mrs. Mabel Skrock, Washington, D.C., and Mrs. J. W. McConnell, Kent. Mrs. Howell was assistant manager of the shoe department in Neisner Brothers Store, 231 N. Main St. Mrs. Howell is survived by her husband, Donald L., and daughter, Patricia, at home. (published in The Lima News, Monday, August 8, 1955)
