Description	:	Marilyn S. Vavra 79 of Wessington Springs died Monday evening November 10th at the Avera Weskota Memorial Medical Center in Wessington Springs. Her memorial service was Saturday November 15, 2014 at the Foothills Bible Fellowship Church. Inurnment will be at Restlawn Memory Garden Cemetery at a later date. Marilyn Sophia Vavra was born to Elmer and Sophia (Brandenburg) Kalkbrenner on December 30, 1934 at New Hampton Iowa. She moved to Lane, SD as a small child with her family. She attended 12 years at Lane schools and graduated from Lane High School in 1952. She worked at the Lane Ballroom and Rainbow Café in Wessington Springs during her high school years. After graduation she went to cosmetology school at Millers Beauty Academy and got her beauty license. She then moved to Huron and worked at Betty’s Beauty Shop. She married Ed Vavra at the Zion Lutheran Church in Lane, SD on December 26, 1953. They made their home in Wessington Springs. Over the years she worked at Dodd’s Food Store, Edwina Beauty Shop in Woonsocket, Natalie’s Beauty Shop and owned her own shop in Wessington Springs. In the early 1960’s she went to Jr. College and got her bookkeeping degree. She continued doing books for her husband’s trucking business till he retired in 2000. Her interests included redoing older homes, she also like to travel with her husband and daughter and usually her grandson. Over a period of time she visited 48 states and 8 Canadian Provinces. She enjoyed visiting relatives and friends and made many great memories she thought about all the time. She is survived by her husband; 1 daughter Gloria Vavra, Wessington Springs; son Greg (wife Twila) Wessington Springs; son Galen (wife Lisa) of Hartford. 3 Grandchildren Melisa (Scott) Allen, Maine; Jim Vavra, Wessington Springs; Shawna (Nick) Taylor, Sioux Falls. 1 daughter in law Coraleen Vavra, Maine; 1 sister in law Darlene Kalkbrenner Minnesota. 13 Nieces and nephews and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were one son Gary; her parents, 2 brothers, Lyle and Lester, two sisters in law Betty Brandenburg and Margaret Kalkbrenner, and brother in law Mervyn Brandenburg.
