He spent his early childhood there and in Star Valley, Wyoming, and Springville, Utah. He worked may years in Utah as a cement finisher, carpenter and ranch worker. Read More	MARION ELWOOD HOOPES Marion Elwood Hoopes died May 31 1988, at his home in Carlotta at the age of 76. He was born in Emmett, Idaho, March 6, 1912. He spent his early childhood there and in Star Valley, Wyoming, and Springville, Utah. He worked may years in Utah as a cement finisher, carpenter and ranch worker. He moved his family to Fortuna in 1954, where he continued to work as a cement finisher. He retired from cement work in 1967 and took a job on a cattle ranch near Bridgeville. It was there he met and married his second wife, Thelma. They continued in the ranching business until 1975, when they retired and bought a home in Carlotta. Marion enjoyed building and remodeling. He could always see how to remodel homes to make them more convenient. He was always busy building or working in the garden, cutting fire wood, and helping the neighbors. It was in his garden that he passed away. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Thelma Hoopes: his adopted sons, Doug Hoopes and wife Ruth of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and LaGrande Hoopes of Mequite, Nevada; his daughters and sons-in law, Nelda and Doug Robinson of Pleasant Grove, Nena and Vernon Cloward of Salt Lake City, Utah, Shay and Robert Miller of Las Vegas, Nevada, Chloe and Bill Fulton of Tucson, Arizona, Gayla Stephens of Tucson, and Bonnie and Jim Griffith of Phoenix, Arizona; his children's mother, Retha Hoopes of St. George, Utah; his step-daughters, Bonnie Grant and Janice Sights and her husband Richard Sights of Fortuna; 48 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Lathare and Lillian Hoopes of Ogden, Utah, LeRoy and Marie Hoopes of Fortuna; his sister-in-law, Mabel Hoopes of Hyrum, Utah; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Grace and Steven Hancock of St. George, Utah, Larine and Jim Flemming of Boron, California, LaRue and Jerry Hall of Lancaster, California, and Cora Thurston of Fallbrook, California; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cleo Branson, and his brothers, Lynn Hoopes and Farrell Hoopes. Friends and relatives are invited to attend services on Saturday, June 4, 1988, at 3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Roos Hill Road, Fortuna. Interment will be at Sunrise Cemetery, Fortuna. Casketbearers will be Mark Hodges, Richard Adams, Bob Miller, Vernon Cloward, Bill Fulton, and Jim Griffith. Honorary bearers will be his grandsons.
