Mr. Legg was the Store Manager for the Kunkel Service Co. in Chestertown, MD for 40 years, retiring in 1989. He was a United Sates Army veteran. Franklin Legg, Sr. of Chestertown, MD died at his home on Friday, March 14, 2008 he was 80. Born in Chestertown, MD, he was the son of the late, Marion and Marie Bennett Legg. Mr. Legg was the Store Manager for the Kunkel Service Co. in Chestertown, MD for 40 years, retiring in 1989. He was a United Sates Army veteran. In addition to his country, Mr. Legg served his community for many years in the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service. He joined the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company at age 16 in 1943 and was listed as an active Life member he has served the company as a Chief and Chief Engineer for several of those years. He was also a Charter member and Originator of the Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue Squad in Chestertown, MD. He was a member of the Maryland Fire Chief's Assoc. and in 2007 was inducted into the Kent & Queen Anne's Volunteer Fire, EMS and Rescue Assoc, also in 2007, Mr. Legg was the Chestertown Vol. Fire Co. nominee for the Maryland State Fireman's Assoc. Marbery F. Gates Service Cup award. Mr. Legg was also a charter member of the Chestertown Elks lodge #2474 and a member of the Frank Jarmon American Legion Post, Chestertown, MD. Mr. Legg is survived by his wife of 63 years, Thelma Legg; two sons, David Legg and Franklin Legg Jr., both of Chestertown, MD; one grandson; he is also survived by one sister, Harriett Lusby of Kennedyville, MD and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services with Fire Company Honors will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at 2pm in the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Rd, Chestertown, MD where friends and family may call after 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Chester Cemetery, Chestertown, MD. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in his memory to your local fire company or the Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 126, Chestertown, MD 21620.
