Mr. Holder was born on March 11, 1930 in Gainesville, FL, to parents Elizabeth and Ellis Holder. He graduated from GHS in 1948. He continued his education at the University of Florida until 1950 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was discharged in 1954 and returned to UF and received a degree in Agricultural Economics in 1956. He married Betty Borie in November, 1954. Marion was a kind, hard-working soul. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service with the USDA until he retired in 1983. He continued an active life by pursuing his passion of having his own orange grove and selling the fruits of his labor at local farmers' markets. He was a charter member of Wesley United Methodist Church, attending since the age of 10 and served in many capacities. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Betty; their four children Carol (Hans) Farber, Tim (Denise) Holder, Steve (Lee) Holder, and Keith (Diana) Holder; and eight grandchildren and a great-grandson. He is also survived by his brother Thomas Holder and preceded in death by his older brother Ellis. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Wesley United Methodist Church 826 NW 23rd Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32609. Interment with military honors will be in Forest Meadows East. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Florida Methodist Children's Home in Enterprise, FL.
