Description	:	Marion Louise Cowherd Janney, 87, of Luray, died at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2009. Mrs. Janney was born April 7, 1922, at Montieth Farm in Gordonsville, and was the daughter of the late Roderick Grymes Cowherd and Adelaide Walton Cowherd. She attended college at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va., and graduated from the School of Nursing at the University of Virginia in 1944. She served as a nurse at the University of Virginia Hospital during World War II. Read More	Marion Louise Cowherd Janney, 87, of Luray, died at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2009. Mrs. Janney was born April 7, 1922, at Montieth Farm in Gordonsville, and was the daughter of the late Roderick Grymes Cowherd and Adelaide Walton Cowherd. She attended college at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va., and graduated from the School of Nursing at the University of Virginia in 1944. She served as a nurse at the University of Virginia Hospital during World War II. Mrs. Janney was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, serving as Sunday school director, Sunday school teacher, deacon, and held all offices possible in the Women's Missionary Union, both at Main Street Baptist Church and at the Shenandoah Baptist Association. She was a member and officer of the Leaksville Home Demonstration Club and a member of Page Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She devoted much of her time to visiting in area nursing homes with friends, acquaintances and church members. Her passions in life were her church, her family, her friends and her flowers. On June 5, 1943, she married Roby Greene Janney, who preceded her in death in April 2007. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Louise Cowherd Janney Wade. Surviving are two sons, Robert Scott Janney and wife, Sharon C. Janney, and Rodger Clinton Janney; six grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Janney, Marc Daniel Janney, Andrew Scott Janney, Rodger Clinton Janney II, Michael W. Janney and Hannah Louise Janney; six great-grandchildren; four siblings, Mary Jane Cook, Alice Walton Walker, Anne Tyler Handy and Walton Rush Cowherd; and caregivers, Ida Johnson and Louise Hill. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens and a memorial service will be held 2 p.m. at Main Street Baptist Church with Dr. William N. Wade and Evangelist Earl E. Painter officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Louise Janney Wade Memorial Scholarship Fund, Baylor University, P.O. Box 97028, Waco, TX 76798-7028, or to U.Va. School of Nursing, Alumni & Development Office, P.O. Box 800826, Charlottesville, VA 22908-0826, or to the donor's favorite charity.
