He was born on April 11, 1920, in Bluff City and was a son of the late Millard Oscar and Lula Belle Blankenship Janney. Read More	Roby Greene Janney, 87, of Luray, died on Sunday, April 29, 2007, at MontVue Nursing Home. He was born on April 11, 1920, in Bluff City and was a son of the late Millard Oscar and Lula Belle Blankenship Janney. Mr. Janney attended public school in Pearisburg and attended the University of ; Virginia as an under graduate with attendance suspended during World War II. He served in the 4th Marine Division in World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater at Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima as a military police company commander. He observed the flag being raised at Iwo Jima. He retired from the Marines as a captain. Mr. Janney graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1948 and began practicing in Luray in 1948. He formed Will and Janney with J.Everett Will in 1953. In 1974, Robert Janney joined his practice and the law firm of Janney and Janney was formed in January 1975, which later became Janney, Janney and McGrath when John J. McGrath Jr. joined the firm as a partner, continuing under that name until 1996. He served as Commissioner in Chancery for more than 30 years in the Circuit Court of Page County. He was a substitute judge in the 26th Judicial District Courts for more than 20 years and served as Commissioner of Accounts for Page County. Mr. Janney was a member of the Virginia State Bar Council, life member of American Bar Association and the Virginia Bar Association. He was president of the Page County Bar Association and was a member of the Virginia State Bar 7th District Disciplinary Committee. He was engaged in a general practice of law from 1948 until October 2006 when he retired from active practice. He was a longtime chairman of the Page County Unit of the American Cancer Society, a founding member and president of the Page Valley Kiwanis Club, former commander and chaplain of Luray American Legion Post 22, chairman of Page County Democratic Committee and delegate to numerous district and state conventions. Mr. Janney was an active member of Main Street Baptist Church in Luray. He taught boy's and men's Sunday school classes for more than 50 years, was chairman and secretary of the Board of Deacons for numerous terms, Sunday school superintendent, a moderator for Shenandoah Baptist Association and served as a lay speaker. On June 6, 1943, he married Marion Louise Cowherd, who survives.Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Robert S. and Rodger C. Janney, both of Luray; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Louise Janney Wade. A memorial service was conducted on Wednesday, May 2, at the Main Street Baptist Church by Dr. Charles Jolley. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Luray.
