Description	:	Marion Sidney Fultz, 20 , was the only son of J.G. and Eva (Harrold) Fultz of Holton, Kansas, was born in the Banner neighborhood January 15, 1918, spending his youthful days and school days there. Graduating from the public school at an early age, his cheerful and obliging disposition made him a favorite with teachers and pupils. Read More	Marion Sidney Fultz, 20 , was the only son of J.G. and Eva (Harrold) Fultz of Holton, Kansas, was born in the Banner neighborhood January 15, 1918, spending his youthful days and school days there. Graduating from the public school at an early age, his cheerful and obliging disposition made him a favorite with teachers and pupils. At the age of seventeen he moved with his parents to Holton where he spent two years in high school but was unable to continue because of sickness in the home, was compelled to assist in the family support. A few weeks ago he was employed at the Brown’s Food Market as clerk and delivery boy, and entered into the work with great enthusiasm. His kindly smile and courtesy soon endeared him to patrons and his employer and co-laborers. On Thanksgiving Day, he with his boyhood chum, Joe Walsh, Jr., went to Kansas City to get an enclosed body for his car to insure greater safety and comfort in his work. Leaving Kansas City at about six o’clock in the evening, they were hoping to reach home early that he might be ready for business the next morning. When near five miles of Valley Falls the car went out of control and then struck the end wall of a culvert with such force that the gas line was broken and the car took fire, entombing the boys and burning them beyond recognition. It was thought a front tire must have blown out as it was the only one burned, causing the crash. Funeral services were held at the funeral home in Holton on Saturday afternoon by the writer, an old friend of the family, which he considers one of the saddest held in years. The family circles of both boys have the deepest sympathy of all the community where they have spent their youthful days. Why do we wonder that the lovely and living son, brother, friend did where manhood’s morning almost touches noon, while the shadows still were falling toward the west; while in love with life and recaptured with the world, just in the happiest, sunniest hours of life’s voyage, he should dash against the rock to fall into that seamless sleep that kisses down his eyelids still? Beautiful consoling songs were rendered by E.D. Woodburn and Floss Hasson in their masterful way that thrills every heart. His body-bearers were his boyhood chums, George and Harold Riley, Walter Reamer, Henry Brockelman, Jr., Larry Ireland and Carl Myers. He leaves to mourn, his parents, one sister, Mrs. Irene Culver, of Excelsior Springs, Mo. He was twenty years, ten months and nine days old. Hamm The Holton Recorder ~ December 1, 1938 Thanksgiving day was marred by a tragic automobile accident east of Valley Falls which took the lives of two of our young men. The dead are Joe Walsh, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Walsh, Sr. and Sidney Fultz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gen. Fultz of Holton. Both boys died in their burning automobile, after the machine struck a baluster of a culvert on Highway 24, five miles east of Valley Falls. The accident occurred at 10 o’clock night. Life was extinct when it was possible to remove the bodies after the fire had subsided. The boys had been to Kansas City to have a new body put on the Ford car belonging to Sidney Fultz. The substitution had been made and the boys were on their way home. The car stuck the concrete baluster and the hood doubled around it. The impact drove the engine backward and it is believed the boys must have been killed instantly, The gasoline tank was punctured and the gas ignited, setting fire to the car……………… The Holton Recorder ~ November 28, 1938.
