"She was so much fun and had a great sense of humor. After we left home, Mom would always send us care packages of our favorite cookies and other things. She loved getting handmade gifts and saved every one of them, even the crude little drawings on paper we made as children. "The grandchildren adored her and we said she spoiled them, letting them 'drive' the car, baking all their favorite treats, teaching them how to play pool and darts properly. No wonder they would spend two or three weeks with her every summer." Margie battled cancer the last five years the same way. She just accepted it and didn't want anyone's pity. Her spunk kept her going until the cancer won out. Margie died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at Mobridge Regional Hospital at the age of 69. The daughter of Ottilia (Thurn) and John Gab, Margie was born in Eureka on Aug. 15, 1937. Early on, she moved with her family to Selby where she attended public school. Following her schooling, she worked as a waitress at the Auburn Hotel and Caf/. She then moved to Aberdeen where she was employed at a Chinese restaurant. She met Edward Lemler through her father and their love for horses. They were married at the First United Methodist Church in Rapid City on May 19, 1957. They made their home in Selby where she was employed at Stoick's Grocery Store. In 1966 they moved to Faulkton where she and Ed ran the VFW Club. In 1970 they moved back to Selby where Margie resumed working at Stoick's and later worked at the Krinkle Can Store in Mobridge. She also worked as a jailor for Walworth County from 1999 to 2003. She was a member of the Selby United Methodist Church. Bowling was her favorite hobby, highlighted by her women's team winning the 1976 State Championship. Margie leaves her husband, Edward "Ed" Lemler of Selby; two daughters, Teri (Brad) Montagne of Sturgeon Lake, Minn., and Tamara (Steven) Dills of Zimmerman, Minn.; one sister, Betty Jean Connor-Miller of Vancouver, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Rachel (Lucas) Marshall of Moscow, Idaho, Twyla Montagne of Dayton, Ohio, Krista Montagne and Jared Montagne of Sturgeon Lake and Darin Dills, Danielle Dills and Dana Dills, all of Elk River, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Hedi Gab Swanhorst of Aberdeen. Margie was preceded in death by her father on April 22, 1971, her mother on Dec. 13, 1984, three brothers, Roland, LeRoy and Johnny, and four sisters, Evelyn Schick, Virginia in infancy, Ruby Nagel and Shirley Boucher. The funeral for Margie was Monday, Dec. 4, at the Selby United Methodist Church with Pastor Dave Heintzleman officiating. Dana Dills shared reflections of Margie's life. Casketbearers were five grandchildren, Krista, Jared, Darin, Danielle and Dana, and Margie's nephew Donel Lemler of Selby. Two granddaughters, Twyla and Rachel and all Margie's friends were honorary bearers. Tom Fiedler and Ray Bucklin were ushers. Burial was in Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle. Mobridge Tribune December 6, 2006
