Born on Feb. 6, 1911, in Sioux County, Neb., to Clyde A. and Mina Mendenhall, she died on April 7, 2006, in Ardmore. She and Howard C. Wells were married on May 9, 1937, in Hot Springs, S.D. Four children were born to this union: Connie, Beth, Duane and Myrna. They raised their children and ranched in Sioux County until his retirement in 1980, when they moved to Colorado to live near family. They returned to Nebraska and lived in Alliance for several years during the 1990s and then again returned in 2001 to Colorado, where Howard died in April 2004. In August 2004, she moved to Ardmore to live with her daughter. Marjorie was an elementary school teacher, mostly in one-room country schools in Sioux County. A loyal member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for 60 years, she worked in the church's community services for many of those years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Edith Kruger; her husband, Howard; her son, Duane; and her daughter, Myrna. She is survived by her twin sister, Margaret Bertsch, Gering, Neb.; her daughter, Connie, and her husband, Dr. Gary Nowlan, Boulder, Colo.; her daughter, Beth, and her husband, Dr. James Carlson, Ardmore; a granddaughter, Dr. Jill, and her husband, Dr. Craig White, Laurel, Md.; three grandsons, Terry and Shawn Nowlan, Boulder, and Jay Carlson, Ardmore; a granddaughter, Erin, and her husband Ed Fox, Lincoln, Neb.; and a great-grandson, Brendon, Laurel. Bearers will be grandchildren. Honorary bearers are Terry Nowlan and Jay Carlson.
