Franks, daughter of Perry Dee, and Esther Susan (Shipe) Hummel, was born on April 9, 1921, in rural Essex. She passed away on Fri., Dec. 9, 2005, at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, at the age of 84. Growing up in the rural Essex area, Marjorie attended country school and graduated from Essex High School with the Class of 1939. On September 18, 1941, Marjorie was united in marriage to Levi F. Franks in Maryville. With the exception of a short time living in Omaha, both Marjorie and Levi lived their entire lives in the Essex area. Marjorie was a homemaker raising her children, and helping her husband Levi while he ran Franks' Garage in Essex. Marjorie was a lifetime member of the Essex Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 25 years. In later years she transferred her membership to the Shenandoah Presbyterian Church. Marjorie enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and gardening. Her greatest joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She devoted many happy hours helping to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoying her time with them. Preceding Marjorie in death were her husband Levi, parents, Perry and Esther Hummel, brothers Charles, Daniel and Lawrence and sister Mary. She is survived by her daughter Berna (Franks) Rogers and husband Calvin of Vancouver, Wash., granddaughter Melissa Whitcomb and husband Dennis and their children, Caitlyn and Aaron, and grandson Tom McComb and his children, Nick and Jacob. Also surviving is her daughter Bonnie (Franks) Minnick and husband Jesse of Essex, granddaughter Tracy Falk and husband Chris of Shenandoah and their children Amanda and Elizabeth Falk, granddaughter Amy Edgar and husband Todd of Washington, Kan., and their children Morgan, Brandon and Kyle and grandson Levi Smith and his daughter, Allison. Private memorial services following cremation, will be held at a later date in the summer. Memorials may be directed to the family. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
