Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, in United Methodist Church at Oshkosh with the Rev. Ray Weinerman officiating. The daughter of James and Lena (Gordon) Orr [editor: actually James and Lena Patterson], she was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1916, in Garden County. She received her early education at District 45 school and continued at the Lewellen Rural High School for three years. She then attended Garden County High School at Oshkosh, graduating in 1935. After graduation, she attended Chadron State College for two years and taught in rural schools following college for several years. On Feb. 25, 1939, she married George Orr at Sterling, Colo. They made their home on Blue Creek northwest of Lewellen. There, they farmed and raised cattle. Later, the couple retired to Oshkosh. She moved to Heritage of Bridgeport nursing home where she had lived for the past two years. The Orrs were members of the Lewellen United Methodist Church, and she was involved with the United Methodist Women and enjoyed playing Bunco. Survivors include her daughter, Janet and her husband, Roland Waite, of Dalton; two brothers, Jim Patterson and his wife, Becky, and Bill Patterson and his wife, Alice, all of Oshkosh; four sisters, Mae Orr of Fort Collins, Colo., Winnie Roberts, Nellie and her husband, Tom Loyd, all of Wray, Colo., and Lillian and her husband, Duane Robinson, of Centennial, Colo.; two grandchildren, Paula and her husband, Jeff Shafer, of Broomfield, Colo., and Rollie John Waite and his wife, Cathy, of Dalton; three great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Wilber Orr of Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; an infant daughter, Charlene, in 1942; a son, Merlin, in 1970; and a sister, Dorothy Fischer. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church, Oshkosh Senior Center, or to Prairie Haven Hospice. Interment was in Ash Hollow Cemetery near Lewellen. Holechek Funeral Home at Oshkosh was in charge of arrangements.
