Marge was born May 6, 1923, in Iona, Minn., daughter of Joseph C. and Sophie Amelia (Hafner) Wermerskirchen. Marge was a graduate of West High School in Waterloo. Read More	WATERLOO -- Marge Youngblut, 91, of Waterloo, died June 10, 2014, surrounded by her family at Cedar Valley Hospice Home following complications from a stroke. Marge was born May 6, 1923, in Iona, Minn., daughter of Joseph C. and Sophie Amelia (Hafner) Wermerskirchen. Marge was a graduate of West High School in Waterloo. On a snowy day in 1943, she took a train to marry the love of her life, Jim W. Youngblut on Christmas Eve, at Ellington Field in Texas, where Youngblut was serving in the Army Air Corps. Marge and Jim worked to build the family business, Youngblut Construction. They loved traveling and shared many adventures together for 57 years until his death in 2000. All of her children and grandchildren were inspired by her love of music. She encouraged their piano and band lessons and enjoyed nothing more than a sing-a-long around the piano with her family and friends. Marge was the card-playing matriarch of the family, playing "500" with anyone she thought she could beat. She treasured summers at their home in Clear Lake and later on the Mississippi in Brownsville, Minn. An avid sports fan, Marge and Jim had season tickets to the Hawkeye football games for more than 50 years. She also enjoyed “her” Chicago Cubs and watching all college basketball. Marge never forgot to send a card for a birthday or anniversary. She loved her roses and flower gardens, watching goldfinch and cardinals and playing with generations of family dogs. Marge was known for her buttermilk brownies, potato salad and famous chip dip. Dedication and love of family was most important to Marge. After her daughter, Peggy, was injured in an accident, she committed her life to caring for her. Marge had a deep commitment to her faith and her strength was an inspiration to her family. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor and style. Marge is survived by five children: Kathy Hadley, Nancy Youngblut, Calif., Becky Bertch (Gary), Jim Youngblut (Brenda Roth) and Mary Beth Youngblut (Paul Fried); 12 grandchildren, Jenny (Dave) Olson, Mike (Angie) Hadley, Chris Hadley, Eric (Molly) Bertch, Elizabeth Bertch, Patrick and Nora Grace Futtner, Jonathan and Emmalyn Fried, Jack, Jimmy and Mary Sophia Youngblut: three great-grandchildren, Gabe and Sophie Olson and Leia Hadley; and sisters-in-law, Beverly Youngblut and Maye Youngblut. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two children, Dick and Peggy, and two brothers, Vernon and Norbert. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, with burial in the church cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m., a sing-a-long at 7:30 p.m., and visitation for an hour before Mass at the church.
