ROSCOE April 9, 1913 - February 4, 2000 Funeral services for Marjorie R. Roscoe were held at Piper Funeral Home on Monday, February 7, 2000. Officiating at the morning service was Rev. Robert E. Call, Pastor of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons. Marjorie Ruth Roscoe died Friday morning, February 4, 2000, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 26 days. The organist for the service was Beverly G. Preston. Darlene Olsen and Donna Palmer sang, "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden". Instrumental music included "On The Wings of a Dove". The casket bearers were Greg George, Doug George, Cody George, Derek George, Robert Roscoe and Dennis Roscoe. Interment was in Lyons Cemetery. Following the graveside services, members of the United Methodist Women served a lunch, in the Memorial United Methodist Church basement. Marjorie Ruth Roscoe was born on the family farm, west of Lyons, Nebraska, to Frank and Alice (Praisewater) Roscoe on April 9, 1913. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1930, attended Wayne State College and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Marjorie was a teach for 17 years, in Colorado and Coleridge, Nebraska. During World War II, she worked at the Martin Bomber Plant in Bellevue. Marjorie was, for 35 years, the medical records librarian for Children's Hospital in Omaha. For several years thereafter, she was a volunteer teacher of first grade reading at Washington Elementary school in Omaha. In September of 1998, she sold her Omaha home and moved to an apartment in Lyons. Due to declining health, she has spent the past month in the home of her sister, Tressie George, where she died Friday morning. Marjorie enjoyed reading, gardening and travel. A well educated, broad-minded woman, she always maintained a very close relationship with her family. She had been a member of the Altrusa Club of Omaha and was an annual support of the Henry Dorley Zoo and the Omaha Playhouse. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Alice Roscoe; her brother, Milton Roscoe and her sister Isabel Robertson. She is survived by two sisters: Marion Giesing of Lebanon, New Jersey and Tressie George of Lyons. She is also survived by three generations of nieces and nephews. -The Lyons Mirror-Sun, 10 Feb 2000
