Mark Butler, age eighty-five, widely known Brownstown resident, died at his home there at 2:30 o'clock this morning. Death was due to a complication of diseases with which he had been suffering for the past year. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the Ratcliff Grove Church with the Rev. E. M. Sutherland, of this city, in charge. Burial in the Goss Cemetery. Mr. Butler was a life-long resident of Brownstown township, where he was born on April 15, 1857, the son of Samuel and Lyla Cooley Butler. He was married on April 15, 1885, at Brownstown to Margaret Ann Goss, who survives. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was a farmer by occupation as long as his health permitted. Besides the widow, he is survived by three sons, Mark D. Butler, of Brownstown; Samuel Butler and Cephus Butler, both residing on a Ewing rural route; and three daughters, Mrs. Lovella McCory, of Brownstown; Mrs. Anna Stafford, residing on a Freetown rural route and Mrs. Rosa Lucas, of Brownstown. Thirty-seven grandchildren and forty-one great-grandchildren also survive. Obituary published in The Tribune (Seymour, IN), on Saturday, April 18, 1942, pgs. 1 and 4.
