Mark David (Swartz) Hanzelka was born on Saturday; December 18, 1948, in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa at the Deaconess Hospital. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and was currently a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Mark graduated from the LeGrand High School in LeGrand; Marshall County, Iowa in1966 and later attended Drake University in Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa. Mr. Hanzelka was self-employed most of his adult life. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed golf, basketball and baseball. He enjoyed traveling and reading- especially documentaries, medical journals and history. He was continually researching and learning. Mark David (Swartz) Hanzelka, age: 62, passed away on Tuesday; May 31, 2011 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames; Story County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His daughter: Dina Marie, his grandsons: Derek and James Baier, also his great-grandson: Joshua Hayden all of Des Moines, Iowa. His parents: Val and Donna Hanzelka of Marshalltown, Iowa, his sister: Valarie Jean (Godfrey) Sherriff of Austin; Travis County, Texas, his half-sister: Cindy (Jerry) Kutzner, his half-brother: Jeff Swartz also his half-nieces, his nephew and a host of friends. Preceding Mark in death were his biological father: Denny Ray Swartz, his biological grandparents: J.D. Marie (Swartz) Mick, his grandparents: Ole and Clara Hage also Frank and Mary Hanzelka. May they rest in peace. May God bless his memory and give strength to those that mourn. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the service time on Saturday. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday; June 4, 2011 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, Iowa with Pastor Gregg Davison officiating.
