Another tragic death in Mills County occurred Saturday evening about a mile below White Cloud station when one of our finest young men, Mark Baldozler, one of the twin sons of John Baldozler south of Hastings was drowned. It seems that the young man, his brothers and father, George Crouse and Ralph Hummel, neighbors of the Baldozlers had gone down to the Hummell farm to do some spear fishing in the high waters which had overflowed from the Nishna on the Hummell land. There is a deep bayou through the farm and this had filled so that there was eight or ten leet of water in it. Mark had been spearing fish with the rest of them and had gone around to the other side of the bayou and started back and then concluded to swim across. When out in the deeper portion he suddenly seemed to have trouble and went down. His brother tried to pull him out but was unsuccessful and nearly lost his own life in the attempt. His father also came to his rescue as quickly as possible but was unable to get him out. The accident happened between six and seven o'clock in the evening. Help was quickly summoned and a party of men searched for the body unceasingly until about one o'clock Sunday morning when the party composed ot George Schurr Jr., E. B. Wallahan, Frank Adams and Arthur Cox discovered the body at the bottom under about eight feet of water. They used boats and dragged with garden rakes until they found it. The position of the body ondicated that the young man had probably been attacked with cramps or some sudden sickness and this is quite probable as he was a good swimmer and could have made the trip accross in ordinary circumstances. This was a terrible blow to the father and the family,mwho have suffer, ed more than their share ot sorrow in the past few years. Mark was a fine young man, in his seventeenth year, industrious, capable and likeable. He had a host of friends who greatly mourn hia untimely end and offer deepest sympathy to the bereaved family. Funeral services were held from the late home three miles south of Hastings, Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. E. Wilklns of the First Baptist Church. Interment was made in the Emerson cemetery. Malvern Leader, August 3, 1922
