Description	:	Mark was the son of Orrin and Sylvia Diana (King) Freeman and was born near the hamlet of Volga City, Sperry Township, Clayton County, Iowa on January 26, 1869. His early years were spent on the family farm in Iowa. In April of 1878 the family moved to Washington County, Kansas where he lived for the next eleven years. Read More	Mark was the son of Orrin and Sylvia Diana (King) Freeman and was born near the hamlet of Volga City, Sperry Township, Clayton County, Iowa on January 26, 1869. His early years were spent on the family farm in Iowa. In April of 1878 the family moved to Washington County, Kansas where he lived for the next eleven years. Finally the family moved once again, this time to the little town of Yesler, King County, Washington in April of 1889. Yesler is now part of the city of Seattle. He lived the rest of his life in the vicinity of Seattle. Mark married Laura Amelia Sprengle on Friday, March 13, 1902 at Spokane, Washington. Laura was born March 21, 1870 at Washington, Kansas. Her parents wre Henry Springle, born in Frederick County, Maryland, and Amelia (Cook) Sprengle, born in Ashland, Ohio. Mark and Laura had three children: Orrin Henry (born December 27, 1902 in Seattle), Mary Myron (born November 9, 1904 in Seattle) and Lauretta (born January 6, 1908; died July 26,1908 in Kent, Washington; was six months old when she died). Mark joined the Seattle police department in 1897 after working for a time as a cable gripman. Weighing 275 pounds and being 6'4" tall, the team of Freeman and Hubbard were institutions of the old "skid road" of downtown Seattle. Mark Hubbard, the other member of the team, was the same size. Mark retired as a Seattle detective lieutenant and lived most of his senior years at Suquamish, Washington. He was a member of Doric Lodge, Friendship Chapter R.A.M., Knights Templar and the Police Relief Association. After a two week illness, he passed away at the age of seventy-one on December 5, 1940 in Seattle. One source states he was buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Kent, Washington; however, this cemetery has not been identified as presently existing. It is likely that the Hillcrest Burial Park took over the operation and name. His wife Laura died March 10, 1958 in Seattle and is also buried at Kent, Washington.
