Schieffer, 65, of Crofton, Nebraska, died Monday, December 29, 2014, at Sacred Heart Hospital in the presence of his family after a battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, January 2, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton, NE with Rev. Michael Schmitz officiating. Burial will be at the Beaver Creek Cemetery in rural Crofton, NE. Visitations will be on Thursday from 2-5:00 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, NE with the Vigil Service at 4:00 p.m. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Arrangements/photo are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. Pallbearers will be Alan Schieffer, Carl Schieffer, Jon Schieffer, Tim Schieffer, Marv Olnes, Alan Heilman, and Lee Heilman. Marlan was born November 3, 1949 to Norbert and Mary (Mueller) Schieffer at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. He attended Beaver Creek Country School (District #102). He then graduated from Crofton High School in 1968. Marlan attended Wayne State College and then worked in construction in Macon, Georgia. Upon his return to Nebraska he met the love of his life, Peggy Perk, and they were married August 2, 1975 at St. Rose of Lima Church. He then farmed and worked for the Crofton Coop Elevator and had recently retired from working at Frontier Feed Mills the past sixteen years. Marlan loved sports, especially baseball, much like his dad. Baseball began at the farm, playing with his brothers and neighborhood friends. Next, it was baseball at Beaver Creek Country School with his teacher, Bob Meyer. He later played Legion, Cedar and Tri-County League Baseball as well as managing the Crofton Blue Jays to their 1972 South Dakota State Amateur Baseball Championship. Attending the College World Series with family was a summer highlight along with following his beloved "Dodgers!" He also loved to attend and follow Crofton High School Sports and Crofton Graduates at colleges nearby. And of course, Marlan always cheered on the "Huskers!" Marlan truly loved his family and is survived by his wife, Peggy, and four children: Paul of Phoenix, AZ; Nick of Lincoln, NE; Sara (Carl) Livingston of Yankton, SD; and Jana of Nashville, TN. He was the proud grandfather of two boys, Mason and Carson Livingston and uncle to 19 nieces and nephews. Surviving brothers are Larry of Lincoln, NE; Val Dean (Nancy) of Crofton, NE; Harley (Linda) of Des Moines, IA; one sister, Marcia (Marvin) Olnes Jr. of Yankton, SD. In-laws are Rick (Deb) Perk, Lincoln, NE; Steve (Cindi) Perk, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; John (Michelle) Perk, Meridian, ID; and Doris (Tom) Heilman, Yankton, SD. He is preceded in death by his father and mother: Norbert and Mary Schieffer and their parents, Francis and Katherine (Guenther) Schieffer and Joseph and Edith (Merkel) Mueller; his father and mother-in-law: Lucian (Bud) and Ann Louise Perk and their parents Joseph and Frances (Eckholt) Perk and Louis and Elizabeth (Lammers) Stevens.
