Gerber was born November 5, 1942, in Austin, MN, the daughter of Everett and Beryl (Thompson) Gerber. As a child, Marlene’s family moved throughout the Midwest following her father’s business. Marlene graduated from Austin High School in Austin, MN. She then began work at Marigold in Mason City. On Sunday, October 11, 1964, Marlene married the love of her life, Richard Johnson at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Plymouth, IA. The couple was blessed with three children, Lynne, Mark, and Tim. Together the family made their home in Plymouth. Marlene took pride with her 30 years of service at Sears, where she made numerous friends and loved to get to know people and make connections. Marlene was an active lady who was constantly looking forward to the next gathering or luncheon. She would get together with her widows' group, grandmothers group, classmates, and the Sears ladies. Marlene enjoyed creating quilts to share, whether it was for family or a local organization or church. Marlene was an active member and guild member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Plymouth until its closing, and recently of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly. Left to cherish her memory include her three children, Lynne Church and her husband Steve, Forest City, IA, Mark Johnson and his wife Shelly, Manly, IA, and Tim Johnson and his wife Kimberly, Manson, IA; nine grandchildren, Anthony (Jasmine), Haley, Tyler (Ryann), Jesse, Zachary (Alysha), Hunter, Titan, Major and Trinity; great-grandchildren, Everett, Taylor, Brady. Brother-in-law, James Johnson and his wife Coralee; sister-in-law, Julie Johnson. As well as numerous extended family members and friends. A special relationship with the Alexander family. She was preceded in death her husband Richard as well as her by her parents, Everett and Beryl Gerber; Richard’s parents Leo and Josephine Johnson; sister Evie Schrage and her husband Bob; sister-in-law, Betty (Duane) Berhow; brother-in-law, Thomas Johnson; and niece Julie Johnson. A special thank you would like to be extended to the staff of Good Shepherd Health Center for their wonderful, devoted care of Marlene over the years.
