Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Marlene died Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. Marlene Ketelhut was born on July 21, 1935, to Arthur and Otelia (Haag) Lutz at the Eureka Community Hospital in Eureka, SD. She was raised on a farm twelve miles southwest of Eureka and went to grade school at the Sutley Country School. She graduated from Eureka High School in May of 1953. Later, she attended Aberdeen School of Commerce for two years. She was a secretary and receptionist at many places, including: Nash Finch Company, Super Value Company, Employment Security Office and Northern State University. Later she was hired at South Dakota Wheat Growers where she was employed for the next 21 years. Marlene married Gerald "Jerry" Burgard on June 9, 1956. He worked for the SD Highway Department and was a softball pitcher. Marlene enjoyed time spent with him at softball tournaments. Together, they had three sons: Daryl, Timothy and Bryan. Jerry died January 1, 1991. Marlene married Jerome Ketelhut on August 19, 1995, at Chapel in the Hills in Rapid City, SD. They lived in Huron, SD but soon moved to Aberdeen. Together, they enjoyed traveling, camping, and dancing. Marlene loved to help people. She would often cook large meals for her family and friends and enjoyed the time spent with them. She attended many of her children's sports events growing up and cherished her grandchildren. Marlene liked being outdoors and made numerous ceramics. Grateful for having shared Marlene's life are her husband Jerome Ketelhut; children, Daryl (Lori) Burgard, Timmothy Burgard, Bryan Burgard; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister, Debora Keal; a niece and a nephew; step-children: Lisa (Jessie) Garcia, Jeffery Ketelhut; and three step-grandchildren.
