Read More	Marlin Henry Solheim, 87, of Frankfort, SD, passed away on May 19, 2019, at the home of his sister, Janet (Gene) Reich in Aberdeen, SD. Marlin was born on June 28, 1931, to Leif and Jennie (Bruins) Solheim on the family farm that was located north and west of his current home. He was the middle son, having two brothers, Oscar and Hans and twin sisters, Janet (Gene) Reich and Janice (Robert) Patterson. He attended grade school at a country school and later attended and graduated from Frankfort High School. He was baptized and a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Though helping on the farm was a priority, he enjoyed basketball and other athletic and school activities. After graduation, he did custom combining with crews from the Frankfort area and worked on the farm until he was drafted in 1952. He was very proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army. His basic training was in Fort Bliss, Texas where he completed electrical engineering courses that would assist him in building bridges and roads in South Korea. Marlin served in active duty from August of 1952 to June 1954, arriving in Pusan and spending part of his tour in the Incheon area of South Korea. In 2016, he attended the Recognition for Korean Veterans in Pierre, SD, where the South Korean president honored the South Dakota veterans who fought so hard for their country. Though he spoke very little of his military life in early years, he became more open in later years, sharing some of those experiences. Upon return from military service, Marlin again returned to farming with his father until he was able to rent a place of his own north of Frankfort in 1957. That farm became his current home place. Marlin loved the farm and worked hard to make it what it is today. He lived frugally and put all he could back into the farm. It was his life goal and his passion. You could see the pure pleasure in his face as he would watch the fields of grain and then corn and soybeans grow. Though he lived alone most of his life, he always had an inner strength that gave him a sense of contentment and pride in his accomplishments as a farmer. Though burdened with a diagnosis of cancer, Marlin courageously lived independently on the farm until December of 2018. Marlin will be remembered as a quiet, gentle man who asked very little of anyone. Material things meant very little to him other than the land he was able to farm and call his own. He was forever a farmer, never really choosing to retire or to leave his home on the farm. A feat he was pretty successful in doing. Marlin is survived by his brother, Hans Solheim of Redfield; sisters, Janet (Gene) Reich; and Janice (Robert) Patterson, both of Aberdeen; sister-in-law, Bernice Solheim of Frankfort. Nieces and nephews; Matt (Leslie)Reich of Westminster, Colorado; Chris Patterson of Woodridge, Illinois, Angie (James) Schwan of Aberdeen; Peggy (Doug) Boomsma of Frankfort, Sandy Solheim of Redfield; Tammy (Jeff) Stanislawski of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; Penny Swope of Cottonwood, Minnesota and Tony (Denise) Solheim of Frankfort. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jennie (1988) and Leif (1991); brother, Oscar Solheim (2019); sister-in-law Chick (Vesta) Solheim (2017) and nephews Terry and Michael Solheim.
