She passed away on June 4, 2007 at Morys Haven in Columbus, Nebraska at the age of 101 years, 8 months and 18 days. She passed away on June 4, 2007 at Morys Haven in Columbus, Nebraska at the age of 101 years, 8 months and 18 days. When Martena was five years old her family moved to a farm northwest of Bostwick, and she attended country school north of Bostwick. In 1919 when Martena was 14, she moved to Superior with her father and sisters, and she attended school in Superior. She was united in marriage to Lester Levi Roder on February 10, 1935 in Belleville, Kansas. This union was blessed with a son, Larry Lee. Lester and Martena ran the IGA grocery store for 15 years in Superior. In 1964 they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where Lester worked as a meat cutter. They retired in 1976. Lester passed away in 1996, and due to poor health she was cared for by two ladies in their home in Columbus, Nebraska. On November 18, 2004 she entered Morys Haven in Columbus, Nebraska and resided there until she passed away. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Preceded her in death were her parents, husband, Lester on April 10, 1996, three brothers: Jens, Nels and Ernest; and five sisters: Myrtle and Matilda Andersen, Anna Nelsen, Sena Simonsen and Lillie Patterson. Survivors include her son, Larry and wife Susan of Gilbert, Arizona; and two grandchildren, Megan Burgess and Mindy Roder and one great granddaughter, Brennan Burgess all of Arizona; nieces, nephews other Relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 10:00 AM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska with officiating. Music was "In the Garden," and "The Old Rugged Cross," with Alicia Ferguson as soloist and Betty Schott as organist. Pallbearers were Megan Burgess, Mindy Roder, Tom Hunter, Larry Roder and Donn Mellott. Honorary pallbearer was Wylie Blair. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska. Condolences may be sent in care of www.pricefuneralhomes.com Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska was in charge of the arrangements.
