Sewell of Winner, South Dakota, was brought to Skidmore Tuesday for burial. The funeral was held at the Lee Teson residence southeast of Skidmore Tuesday evening at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Miller. Burial took place in the Groves cemetery. Mrs. Sewell is a daughter of Mrs. Sarah E. Pope. She was married to C. A. Sewell January 17, 1906. She is survived by her husband and three children. Sewell, who died at her home in Winner, South Dakota, and was brought back to this county for burial." -------------------------- From the May 15, 1913 Skidmore, Missouri New Era, page 1: "Obituary - Sewell Martha Pope Sewell was born September 10, 1881, near Skidmore, Missouri. In early childhood she moved with her parents, L. J. Pope and wife, to Battle Creek, Nebraska, where they lived a number of years, but returned to the old home in Missouri in 1900. She was converted and united with the Baptist church at Battle Creek early in life and lived a beautiful Christian life until death. She was married to Claude Sewell of Graham, Missouri, January 17, 1906. This union was blessed with three children. She departed this life at her home in South Dakota on the morning of May 2, 1913. Beside her loving husband and precious children her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Pope, of Skidmore, Missouri; two sisters, Mrs. Lee Teson, Skidmore, Missouri; and Mrs. Lee Osborn, Madison, Nebraska, four brothers, Buel, Battle Creek, Nebraska, Harve, Charley and Raymond of Graham, Missouri, are left to mourn their loss in her death. Her father preceded her to that beautiful land about four years ago. She was an obedient daughter, a loving sister, a true and devoted wife, a gentle, thoughtful and patient mother. She was deeply pious and a humble, consecrated Christian. The sins of this world had no attractions for her. Her first duty was to her Lord and the second to those around her to whom she could minister. Her Christian character stood out like the beautiful star at night. She wanted to live and made a noble effort in that direction but express a perfect willingness to go if it was her Master's will. She will be missed from her circle of friends and neighbors and Oh! so sadly from her own little home. Her husband, with his little ones in his arms will have the prayers and sympathy of all his many friends. The funeral was conducted at the home of her sister, Mrs. Teson, May 6, by her former pastor, Rev. R. C. Miller, of Moberly, Missouri, in the presence of a large number of her relatives, friends and former neighbors. Why this death that seems so untimely to mortal mind should be we do not know and cannot now, but some day when the mist has cleared away I am sure we shall understand."
