Both names had DOD/DOD inscriptions and it was assumed at the time that both James and Martha were buried together in Brooks cemetery. No Jefferson county Iowa death record was entered for Martha, but evidently no active search was made for an obituary for Martha to provide clarification of where she was buried. A search has been made and an obituary for Martha was found (see transcription below) in microfilm records at the Fairfield Public Library - it stated that Martha had died in Spokane, Washington, and was to be buried there. Although this memorial for Martha in Brooks cemetery was entered on March 26, 2014 based on her joint headstone inscription, it does appear credible that Martha was and likely is still buried at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane, Washington. Both memorials are legitimate as far as FindAGrave guidelines are concerned, since physical burials and inscriptions in cemeteries are considered to be a basis for entering memorials. There are no Brooks cemetery records per se that would show, other than inscriptions, whether Martha might have been first buried in Spokane but removed at some later date to Brooks cemetery. It isn't known to this contributor if there are Fairmount Memorial Park records of burials that would document that Martha was and is still buried there. ABRAHAM Word was received here by relatives of the death in Spokane, Wash., of Mrs. James H. Abraham, 92, who passed away Saturday, Sept. 19 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ida West (sic. a/k/a Iva West). She had been ill for a length of time. Funeral services and burial will take place in Spokane (sic. buried in Fairmount Memorial Park, Spokane, Wa.). Martha Sunderland moved to Jefferson county with her parents from Pennsylvania when a small child. The home was made in the Brookville neighborhood until her marriage to James H. Abraham when they moved to a farm northwest of the city. Thirty years ago she left Jefferson county and has made her home with her daughter for several years. Her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Lizzie Gantz of Fairfield; Mrs. Ida West (sic. a/k/a Iva O Abraham West) of Spokane, Wash., and Ray Abraham of Seattle, Wash.
