She was married to Thomas E. Posegate, of the same place, August 16, 1853 at Georgetown, Illinois by Rev Alexander Wallace. In 1853 the young couple moved to Indianola, Iowa and from there to Story county to the community known as Ballard's Grove and from there to a farm near Kelley where they resided until moving to the village of Kelley where they resided until the death of the husband about four years ago. To this marriage was born six children, three sons and three daughters. Three of these have passed to the Great Beyond, being John who died in infancy, Victoria, the wife of C.A. Crane in 1908 and Mary, the wife of M. Parriott in 1912. The surviving children are George W of Glydon, Minnesota, E.T. (think is F) who lives near Ames, and Mrs Ellen Montgomery of Bayard, Nebraska, with who the mother lived since the death of Mr. Posegate. Mrs Posegate has been an invalid for a number of years and her daughter has tenderly ministered to her until the end. A sister, Mrs, Ellen Craig also survives. In childhood she united with the M.E. church, but in 1889 with her husband she united with the Baptist at Kelley. Both of them were faithful in the church until feebleness from old age prevented. When the church at Kelley was discontinued the membership was transferred to the First Baptist church at Ames and the deceased continued her membership with the Ames church until her death. A good wife and a good mother has gone but a sweet memory will always remain. Those whose privilege it was to know Grandma and Grandpa Posegate as they were lovingly known by their friends, will always remember the devoted care bestowed on the wife and the appreciation of that loving care by the wife to the husband. The homelife of Mr and Mrs Posegate was surely ideal and the indeed proved it was possible to be even more devoted to each other in old age than in youth. It is said that neither of them during their fifty-nine-years of married life spoke a harsh word to the other, a truly wonderful thing to say. The memory of both will be long cherished and world will be better for thier lived, and the good name left behind them will live on in the community long after monuments of masonary shall have fallen to decay.
