Read More	Kansan Friday, June 10, 1936 Martha Ann wright was born in Hardin county, Ky., on May 10, 1845, one of a large family of children of which she is the last. She grew to young womanhood in the state in which she was born. When a small girl she was united with the Baptist church and continued in this faith thru life. She was 87 years and 28 days at the time of her death. On October 5, 1865 she was united in marriage to Lovelace Hickeson. The couple continued to make Kentucky their home until after the birth of their eighth child when they moved to Kansas in January, 1882, settling on a farm near Sedgwick. They later moved to a farm a mile and a half south of McLains which place was their home until after the death of Mr. Hickerson in 1921. Twelve children were born to couple, ten of whom survive. Emmett was killed in 1904 and a son, Albert, died a year ago this month. The surviving children are Pressley, Edward and Grover of Wichita, John of Annelly, William od Pocatello, Idaho, Hugh of Amarilo, Texas, Mrs. Lee Coble of Coffey Creek, mont., Tilden and Harvey of Sedgwick and Herbert of Newton. They loved company and the stranger was welcomed to their home and table, her innate southern hospitality making it impossible for her to turn anyone away without food. All during the years of their residence in McLains they belonged to the Pleasantview Baptist church south of McLains and on Sunday the Hickerson family could be depended upon to make up a part of that small rural congregation. At the death of Mr. Hickerson, his wife broke up the home and lived for two years among her children, who contended for the privilege of entertaining and caring for her. On April 5, 1927 she went to the Bethel Home for the Aged, and here, too, she became a beloved character. Her cheerful, sunny, disposition often dispelled the gloom that so easily invades a home for elderly people. She sang a great deal and even in her last days, her groans would unconsciously merge into a song, which all could recognize. The loving care and devotion of those in the Home to their mother, is a source of great comfort to the children at this time. Always helpful, she loved to go into the kitchen of the Home during the first years there and assist with preparing the meals. Later when to frail for this, she darned and mended for the men of the Home, rejoicing that she still could be helpful.
