Description	:	Daughter of Adam & Josephine (Wissing) Gehring. Married to Maurice L. McCrory in June 1961 at Ashton, NE. She attended Kearney State Teachers College and began teaching at Sherman County District 77 School. She continued to teach in Sherman County schools and eventually received her master's degree in school administration. The couple moved to Creston, where they both taught for six years and also taught in Campbell for the 1967-68 school year. They returned to Ashton in 1968. From the Grand Island Independent Newspaper: An 81-year-old Ashton woman died at the scene of a two-car crash Monday afternoon on Highway 281 a half mile north of Highway 58, about two miles north of St. Libory. Martha A. Gehring McCrory was killed, Howard County Sheriff Tracy Murphy said. McCrory was driving north on Highway 281 in a 1986 Cadillac DeVille when her car and a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix driven south by Barbara A. Hull, 54, of Grand Island collided nearly head-on, Murphy said. Hull was in stable condition Monday night at St. Francis Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said. She had external injuries and possibly internal injuries from the 12:32 p.m. crash, Murphy said. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. No passengers were in either vehicle. Highway 281 was blocked, and traffic was rerouted around a one-mile section for an hour and 15 minutes, Murphy said. Jaws of life were used to remove both women from their cars. Rescue personnel cut the top off Hull's car at 1:05 p.m. It ended up facing north in the southbound lane of the two-lane highway. McCrory's car ended up facing north and was just east of the highway. Both cars had significant front-end damage. An air bag had deployed in Hull's car. Doug Bloyd, 23, of 3111 W. College No. 63 said he was driving south immediately behind Hull's car right before the crash. Bloyd said he tried to assist Hull after the crash but could not remove her from her car. The Howard County Sheriff's Department did not release information Monday regarding the cause of the crash. The Sheriff's Department and Nebraska State Patrol investigated the crash. The St. Libory Fire Department and quick response team, St. Paul Fire Department and emergency medical technicians and Grand Island Fire Department and paramedics assisted at the scene. Murphy and Nebraska State Patrol trooper Darwin Daily also were there. Services for McCrory are pending with Peters Funeral Home of Loup City.
